Shri Shaktikanta Das re-appointed as RBI Governor

The Central Government has re-appointed Shri Shaktikanta Das as Governor, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a further period of three years beyond the 10th day of December 2021, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Shri Shaktikanta Das( born on 26th February 1957). Das is a retired 1980 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. Currently serving as the 25th governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Das also acted as the Member of the 15th Finance Commission and as the G20 Sherpa of India.

This decision was announced in a statement from the cabinet and effective when his current term ends 10th day of December 2021,, ensures continuity in monetary policy settings and signals to investors that any normalization of interest rates in the post-pandemic era will only be gradual.

With the 2nd term of 3 years, Shri Shaktikanta Das will head the RBI till December 2024. Notably, Das had been credited with steering India’s monetary policy response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
